service - city hall

The Office of Emergency Management ensures that the City is prepared for and can respond to and recover from a disaster.

About the Service

The Office of Emergency Management uses an all-hazards approach to ensure that the City is prepared for, and can respond and recover from a disaster or major emergency. Prevention, preparation, response and recovery  are the 4 “pillars” of emergency management.

The City’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) may be activated to provide support to the response and recovery efforts associated with a disaster or major emergency.

There are over 300 staff from City departments, partnering organizations and agencies that are trained to staff the EOC during a major incident or disaster or major emergency.

The Emergency Support Response Team may be activated if residents are displaced from their homes because of a disaster or major emergency.
