After several years of planning and construction, Phase 1 of Nature's Wild Backyard is now open!
In line with the City's vision of establishing the zoo as a leader in its field as well as demonstrating an ongoing commitment to animal welfare, education, conservation and environmental stewardship, the newly created areas provide an opportunity for the public to Get Closer to a wide variety of animals.
The new Red Panda Habitat and Play Space gives zoo visitors a chance to Get Closer to one of the zoo’s most popular species. Children, in particular, will have an up-close view of the pandas in the new adjacent play area.
The goal of the Urban Farm is to create a deeper personal experience and understanding of a working farm while educating people about food sustainability and local agriculture. The animals residing in the Urban Farm include pigs, ponies, cows, sheep, rabbits, cats, bees and chickens.
