Project Overview
The Lewis Farms Facility and Park, located on the southwest side of 92 Avenue and Rosenthal Way, will include:
- Aquatic centre
- Indoor ice rinks
- Fitness centre
- Multi-purpose spaces
- Gymnasium
- Edmonton Public Library branch
- A district park with sports fields, gathering spaces and walkways
The need for a new facility in the west end was identified in the
2005-2015 Recreation Facility Master Plan
and the
Medium Term Recreation Facility and Sports Field Plan
.
Extensive public engagement and stakeholder feedback was conducted on the concept and design, and showed support for the multi-purpose recreation centre that contains aquatic elements, indoor ice amenities, a fitness centre, multi-purpose spaces and gymnasiums, and an Edmonton Public Library branch. While the design originally included an Academic Centre, this was removed by request from the project partner.
The district park outdoor components include sports fields, gathering spaces, skateboard park, and walkways. A summary of the public and stakeholder engagement is in the
What We Heard
report.
Funding for the project was part of the 2019-2022 Capital budget and was deferred. In December 2021, $283 million in funding was approved for the project to proceed with a target completion of 2027.
