Park Plans

As part of The Quarters Downtown redevelopment, the City is working on a new park for the area called Kinistinâw Park. This new park is intended to create a community space for people to gather and to attract further redevelopment to the area.

  • Improve connectivity to open spaces within the Quarters Downtown
  • Make the Armature and Kinistinâw Park a focal point and a year-round gathering place in the Quarters Downtown
  • Use environmentally friendly, sustainable landscape design practices
  • Ensure the publicly accessible open space is designed, maintained and managed to help keep it vibrant, safe and clean

Current Activity

The second phase of Kinistinâw Park construction is underway with project completion anticipated in summer 2022. Ongoing work includes:

  • Kebony deck with integrated seating
  • Interactive water feature (wet play)
  • Natural (dry) play area with drumlin slide
  • Planted edge with bench seating
  • Treed plaza
  • Integrated hard-surface artwork set in granite

Project Overview

Kinistinâw Park is an under-utilized open space located in the community of Boyle Street. As the centrepiece of The Quarters Downtown, Kinistinâw Park is envisioned as an inviting and safe urban park.

The design of Kinistinâw Park will reflect the past, present, and future stories of the community, encouraging everyday enjoyment and special opportunities for celebration and gathering. Integrated with the surrounding streets and properties, the park will be a dynamic and well-loved neighbourhood destination that is a source of local pride.

Construction on Kinistinâw Park was done in two phases with anticipated completion in summer 2022.
