Construction Update - April 2022
Construction completed for Stage 1A (sports field north of Dr. Anne Anderson Public School) in 2021. Construction for the remaining stages of the Heritage Valley District Park project (HVDP) are in progress and targeted for completion by the end of 2022.
Several adjustments were made to the project in 2021 to satisfy project funding constraints. However, additional funding became available and as a result, those adjustments were reversed and the project continues as designed.
Additionally, an emphasis on accessibility was considered within the design and all trails within the park will be asphalt shared use paths. These elements have been added to the scope of the project:
- Bioretention Facility
- Permanent Irrigation system
- Amphitheatre
- Full trail network to be implemented
- All granular trails be upgraded to asphalt
- Naturalization planting
- Perimeter fencing
The new Catholic school (Father Michael McCaffery) is under construction by Alberta Infrastructure on the north-west side of the HVDP. To accommodate construction of the school, a temporary access road and a laydown area within the
is required for a duration exceeding the parameters of the development of the District Park. As a result, an additional stage (Stage 2B) of development will be required to complete the District Park once the temporary access road is no longer needed. The following link illustrates the adjusted scope of HVDP:Advance Construction - Winter 2021/2022
The prime contractor conducted some work in advance over the winter 2021/2022, including earth work, stripping, hauling and material import. A majority of the earth work is complete with the exception of a few isolated portions of the park site due to land constraints. The remaining topsoil and grading will be completed in the Spring 2022 depending on weather conditions.
