Eco Stations accept household hazardous waste, electronics, recyclables, yard waste, bulky items and more.

Payment methods accepted: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Debit, Cash

Note: Eco Station attendants have final say about the acceptability of items and the charges applied to each load.

Notifications

Compost Giveaway

Free City of Edmonton Compost will be available at Kennedale and Ambleside Eco Stations from May 8 to early fall 2022. The compost pile is self-serve, with residents able to pick-up a maximum of 100L.

Free Weekend Events

Eco Stations will hold four free weekend events at all locations on the following dates:

April 30-May 1
June 18-19
August 27-28
October 1-2

The events will run from 9am-7pm. Please be ready to unload your own vehicle and plan for lineups due to high expected demand. Free weekends do not apply to the Edmonton Waste Management Centre for residential drop-offs.

Food Scraps Drop off

Residents receiving communal collection can drop off properly sorted food waste at any Eco Station. Food scraps in BPI-certified compostable bags or paper bags can be added directly to containers, while pails and clear plastic bags need to be emptied out.

Paint Exchange

Residents can continue dropping off paint. However, the paint exchange is paused until further notice.

Acceptable Items and Fees

Prices in effect as of January 1, 2022.

Please stay at home if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and follow all Government of Alberta requirements for isolation if you are experiencing symptoms.

Please allow 6 feet of room, if possible, around staff and other visitors while at Eco Stations.

Yard Waste

Residential and non-residential. Items must be loose or paper bagged, clean and segregated
Bark, grass clippings, fallen tree fruits, houseplants, leaves, mulch, woodchips, pine cones and needles, yard and garden trimmings, branches, ticks, twigs, stumps, roots, trimmings, trunks

Small Items

Cost: $10 per item (minimum $10 charge)
Description: chair, toilet (up to 6 garbage bags or item with comparable volume)

Large Items

Cost: $18 per mattress or box spring, $20 per other item
Details: sofa (7-10 garbage bags or item with comparable volume)

CFC Removal

Cost: $20 per item
Details: fridge, freezer, air conditioner

Lighting

Cost: $1 per tube, 50¢ per CFL
Details: non-residential lighting, all light bulbs (except fluorescent light ballasts containing PCB)

Loose waste / mixed load

Details: yard waste in plastic bags, mixed soil, gravel, lumber, concrete pieces, wood or vinyl siding, shingles, windows, fencing, household garbage bags

Prohibited Waste and Unacceptable Items

Used Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Used personal protective equipment (PPE), which includes face masks and gloves, cannot be recycled.

Safely dispose of used PPE in a waste bin to protect the health and safety of all Edmontonians. It will also help protect crews and volunteers picking up litter around the city.

Battery Recycle Retailers

When batteries enter the residential waste stream, they can leak toxic chemicals into the air, soil and water. They can also interact with other items in the trash and explode or catch fire.
Avoid the risk by dropping off used batteries — big and small — at an Eco Station or retailer.

Plan Your Trip

Load your vehicle strategically. Place smaller items in your vehicle first, bulky items last, and keeping different types of items separate.
Don’t mix yard waste, refuse and scrap metal.Keep it easily accessible.
Be mindful. Please do not block entrances of other businesses while waiting in Eco Station lineups.
