Edmonton has seen incredible transformations in the Downtown core. Since 2015, more than $4.4 billion has been invested in downtown development. More than 6 million square feet of new buildings have been constructed across residential, office, cultural, educational and entertainment sectors.

From a world-class arena to vibrant festivals to new parks and even an upgraded drainage system, the shape and energy of Downtown has shifted dramatically and there are still so many more exciting projects underway. The City of Edmonton is one of many community members investing in the heart of our city and breathing new life into its core.

Our Vision for a Vibrant downtown

Downtown Edmonton is central to the vision of The City Plan as an attractive place that is easily accessible to all and one that supports and grows economic, cultural, institutional and residential prosperity. The specific visions and catalyst projects to help transform the core are identified in the Capital City Downtown Plan and the Capital City Downtown Community Revitalization Levy (CRL) plan .

Edmonton's Downtown Vibrancy Strategy outlines a series of concrete steps and actions we can take to promote vibrancy, create economic opportunities, support equity-deserving communities and ensure the safety of all those living, working and visiting our downtown. The Strategy is built upon four pillars that were shaped by the feedback we received from partners and Edmontonians.

A place with a thriving and inclusive population where people continue to want to live and enjoy a high quality of life.

Downtown as an Economic Hub

A place that supports a strong, diverse economy, where businesses, infrastructure, and amenities are connected and coordinated.

Downtown as a Destination

A place that people love, where tourism, retail, services, festivals, arts and culture, and attractive, accessible, and well-activated public spaces flourish.

Downtown as a Safe and Welcoming Place

A place that prioritizes participation and quality of life for everyone, regardless of race, gender, class, age, ability, culture or other identity.

Current Projects

Beaver Hills House Park & Michael Phair Park Renewal

Beaver Hills House Park and Michael Phair Park are being renewed.

Centennial Plaza Redevelopment

Re-envisioning Centennial Plaza to create a more attractive, welcoming and accessible destination.

Green and Walkable

A vision to make downtown more accessible, easier to navigate and more pleasant for pedestrians.

Jasper Avenue New Vision

This project will re-establish Jasper Avenue, from 92 Street to 109 Street, as an Edmonton main street. Completion is anticipated in 2022.

Kinistinâw Park Project

The goal of this park is to create a community space for people to gather and to attract further redevelopment to the area.

The Quarters: Armature

This pedestrian-oriented corridor runs along 96 St from Jasper Ave to 103 A Ave to connect the districts that make up The Quarters Downtown.

The Quarters: Boyle Renaissance

The Boyle Renaissance is part of the Quarters Downtown revitalization to build new housing, community facilities, and green spaces in the downtown east area.
