Construction began in June 2020; it is progressing on time and budget and we expect to wrap up the construction for year 1 in January 2021.
Construction is ongoing at the west and east parks, viewpoints and areas along the trails. New light poles have been installed and will be operational in 2021. Existing light poles will be removed once the new lights are in operation.
Trails
The trails will continue to be accessible and cleared of snow however, temporary detours may apply for work-related activities. Appropriate signage will be placed so users will be aware of temporary closures and detour routes.
In February 2021, trails and viewpoints around the lake will be open for public use including:
-
The new trail, from the Edmonton Public Library to the Promenade in the west park
-
The trail along the north loop which will be maintained as gravel through the winter and paved with asphalt in spring 2021
Fencing will remain in designated work areas following the temporary shutdown of construction to restrict public access and ensure public safety (see fencing plan).
2021 Construction
Year 2 construction will begin in spring 2021 which includes:
-
All existing concrete trails that have not yet been renewed will be replaced with asphalt
-
Complete the renovations to the east park
-
Complete remaining work at the viewpoints and along the promenade
-
Complete all landscaping and install new benches, waste cans
Areas under construction will be closed to the public. Pedestrian detours will be provided during construction to maintain access to portions of the park.
Please watch your mailbox for construction bulletins that will provide more information along with contact details for any concerns regarding landscaping and access.
