The trail is currently closed and will remain closed until construction is complete. Construction of the new asphalt trail will start in June and is expected to be completed by the fall 2022. Project Overview

The project is to renew the connector piece of the existing trail to promote community connectivity and create a connection between Avalon Junior High School and Lendrum Park. The project scope of work will include replacement of the existing asphalt trail, building a short walkway connection between Avalon Junior High School and Lendrum Park, and the removal and replacement of trees and landscaping.

As part of the trail renewal project, the City is removing 8 Northwest Poplar trees close to the trail causing the damage. These trees will be replaced with 8 Tilia Cordata trees which will be planted as part of the overall project. Tree removals are necessary to meet setback requirements with the renewed trails and to replace them with suitable tree species to prevent damage to the infrastructure in the future. Considerations will be made for the nesting season in the tree removal process.

The trail was developed in the 1960s and this project will rehabilitate a currently closed section of trail. The trail will be renewed to correct a damaged portion of the asphalt trail caused by tree roots.

The trail is currently closed and will remain closed until construction is complete. Construction is expected to be completed by the fall 2022.
